About Psychoanalytic Perspectives
A major aim of Psychoanalytic Perspectives is to cultivate interplay
between relational, interpersonal, or intersubjective flow, and the
more delineated forms of traditional theory. Its pages provide an intellectually
nurturing space for dialogue between emerging analysts and those who
have preceded them. In the integrative spirit of the founders of The
National Institute for the Psychotherapies Training Institute (NIP-TI),
the journal includes writing by practitioners of other therapy modalities,
such as body-centered, cognitive, family, and group therapies.
Along these lines, and of high priority,
will be efforts to address the growing need (in light of 9/11 and its
ongoing aftermath) for understanding — through theoretical and
cultural analysis — individual and collective trauma, as well
as for finding more effective methods and modalities of working with
its sequelae, including the incorporation of spirituality and innovative
clinical techniques, such as EMDR and Somatic Experiencing, into treatment.
These discussions can best occur in an atmosphere of collegiality and
clinical community in which others' thoughts are received and played
with creatively.
The
editors of Psychoanalytic Perspectives also encourage contributions
of poetry, short stories, essays, and memoirs relating to the psychoanalytic
experience. Interviews with esteemed theoreticians and roundtable discussions
on various themes, at times with interdisciplinary panels, are a regular
feature of the journal, along with book reviews and reviews of other
media, such as film and theater. Additionally, we include articles on
practical issues of importance to the clinical community, such as nurturing
a private practice in these challenging times. Beyond our support of
the clinical and the creative, we are also committed to being a forum
for connection and exchange on current matters of social concern (in
our communities, in our country, and in our world). We welcome letters
to the editors and commentaries on articles or other issues of importance
to be considered for publication.
